PUBLIC HEARING
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
July 7, 1988
CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS
CITY HALL, BEAUMONT, TEXAS
2:00 P.M.
A meeting of the Board of Adjustment was held on July 7, 1988 with the following
members present:
Chairman Milton Bell
Boardmember Whit Outlaw
Boardmember Ron Lanier
Boardmember Charles Thompson
Boardmember Gerald Farha
Boardmember Bettye Smith
Boardmember absent: Preston Shaw.
Also present: Murray Duren, Sr. Planner, Edmund Petry, Planner, Tyrone Cooper,
First Assistant City Attorney and Walterine Brown, Recording Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Boardmember Lanier made a motion to approve the minutes of June 2, 1988.
Seconded by Boardmember Outlaw.
Vote carried 5:0.
Boardmember Smith entered.
FILE 333-BA: Consider a variance to reduce the lot area requirement for
a two-family dwelling in an RS (Residential Single Family Dwelling) zoning
district from 10,000 sq. ft. as required to 5,738 sq. ft. Lot 1, Block 1,
University Place 2nd Addition, 638-40 Lavaca Street.
Staff recommended approval of the variance based on the variance not being
contrary to the public interest, literal enforcement of the ordinance will
result in unnecessary hardship and the spirit of the ordinance will be observed
and justice will be done.

Boardmember Thompson made a motion to grant the variance based on staff's
recommendations.
Seconded by Boardmember Smith.
