BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
June 8, 1989
City Council Chambers
A meeting of the Board of Adjustment was held on June 8, 1989 with the following
members present:
Chairman Milton Bell
Board Member Gerald Farha
Board Member Whit Outlaw
Board Member Bettye Smith, MD
Board Member Charles Thompson
Board Members absent: Ron Lanier and Preston Shaw.
Also present: Kirt Anderson, Planning Director; Murray Duren, Sr.
Planner; Edmund Petry, Planner; Tyrone Cooper, First
Assistant City Attorney; and Sheryl L. Kling, Recording
Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Board Member Outlaw made the motion to approve the minutes of the
February 9, 1989 Public Hearing. Board Member Smith seconded the
motion.
Motion to approve carried 4:0.
PUBLIC NEARING
File 337-BA: Consideration of a request for a variance from the lot width
requirements of the Zoning Ordinance for proposed lots in the Villiva Lane
Addition; subject property being zoned LI (Light Industrial) and located in
the 800 to 900 block of Villiva Lane.
Staff recommended approval of the requested variance to reduce the 100
foot wide lot width requirement to the widths shown on the final plat of the
Villiva Lane Addition for the following reasons:
Granting of the variance will not be contrary to the public interest;
Literal enforcement of the ordinance will result in unnecessary
hardship due to the unique condition of the specific piece of
property, said situation not because of the property owner's own
actions; and
By granting the variance, the spirit of the ordinance will be observed
and substantial justice will be done.

Notifications of the public hearing were sent to people owning property
within 200 feet of the subject property. No responses were received.
Board Member Thompson made the motion to grant the variance as
recommended by staff. The motion was seconded by Board Member Smith.
Motion to grant the variance unanimously carried.
WORKSHOP
Kirt Anderson reminded the Board of Adjustment that they are also by
Ordinance the Beaumont Floor Control Board. Mr. rim Legrotte, the
FEMA regional representative, discussed the functions and policies of the
Federal Flood Control Management program.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
