The overpass on 1-10 at College is being raised and the current height of the existing sign (50ft) cannot be seen by cars on the overpass. Since signage is an extremely important factor in the hotel business it is very important for the successful operation of the new Travelodge to be seen easily from 1-10. Sada Jacobs, a representative of The Leyendecker Group provided me with a copy of this letter. I feel the letter to you is "misleading" and 'rnisrepresents" the facts. The purpose of My letter to you is to clear up any potential confusion and distortion of facts. The letter states that Waffle House would be permitted to place our sign on the Travelodge structure which would eliminate two 50 ft. signs in this area. Representatives of the Leyendecker Group approached Waffle House in March 2001 about this possibility. However, we have not entered into any agreement. In fact, we do not plan to share their sign structure under the terms and conditions they have presented to -us. Their letter states that they "plan to permit" Waffle House to share their structure and implies Waffle House has agreed to it. We have not. A couple of months ago I appeared before the Board of Adjustments asking for a variance to 70' because Mr. Humphrey had required Waffle House to remove our sign from his newly acquired property, and our sign would have to be relocated 435' north and 125' west of the existing location. The Leyendecker Group representative was present to evariance 9b ect to the j- because he, at that time, said signs were obnoxious and Beaumont would soon look like Houston where he was from. Their opinion apparently has changed since they need the variance! My request was denied! The existing location of their sign is much closer to I- 10 than ours would have been — and if based on "need", Waffle House needed the variance for visibility purposes much more. I strongly object to this variance and also the "misrepresented" letter sent to you by Charles Leyendeckcr, If a variance should be granted to them it would be grossly unfair unless Waffle House is granted one, too. hank YOU, Forbes Attachment JF:bs - 4r w m ST MILAM .
