Richardson, Planning Manager SUBJECT: Request for variances to the 6' height requirement and the 12 square foot area requirement of Chapter 30-21.2 (c) 8 to allow a sign Ttall and 24 sq. ft. in area at 2110 Liberty. FILE: 464-BA 'STAFF REPORT Calvary Baptist Church, the applicant and property owner, is requesting variances to the maximum height requirement and the maximum square footage requirement for an existing owner identification sign located at 2110 Liberty (Good Samaritan Temple) in the Oaks Historic District. Section 30-21.2 of the Zoning Ordinance requires that all structures and parking lots (except for main and accessory structures and fences) come into compliance with the regulations within four years. The amortization period has now expired. There are currently two signs existing, one on Fifth Street and one on Liberty Street. Both signs are identical. The signs were built prior to the property being included in the Oaks Historic District. They conform to the regulations of the RCR District, The church proposes to remove one of the signs and place the other sign diagonally at the proper, distance from the comer. The applicant shall have the burden of proof to demonstrate that all three conditions necessary for a variance have been met. Exhibits are attached. PUBLIC NOTIFICATION Notices mailed to property owners, 21 . Responses in Favor . Responses in Opposition 0 City of Beaumont Planning Division Re: 2110 Liberty Dear Sirs: July 12, 2001 Good Samaritan Chapel would like to request variance to the regulations by making the following changes: 1. Remove one of the present signs 2. Relocate one of the present signs to the corner of the two streets and position the sign at a 45-degree angle. We operate on a very minimum budget and would prefer maintaining our costs at the lowest possible level. We feel the present signs are very appropriate and do not detract from the style and architecture of the neighborhood.
