HomeMy WebLinkAbout7-13-92 HLC MinutesThe July 13, 1992 Meeting of the Historical Landmark Commission was called to order by Chairman Bessie Chisum. The following Commissioners were present: Commissioner Milton Bell Commissioner Mary Jane Buttrill Commissioner Jessica Foy Commissioner M.L. Lefler, Jr. Commissioner Sam Pullig Commissioner Walter Sutton Commissioner Charles Walker The following Commissioners were absent: Chairman Bessie Chisum Commissioner Bruce Hamilton Commissioner Lory Warton, excused Commissioner Raymond Chaison Staff present: Murray Duren, Senior Planner and Carla Gigliotta, Recording Secretary. Also present: Mayor Evelyn Lord, Councilman Andrew Cokinos, Lawrence Baker, Lori Graham and Laurie Marder, summer interns. APPROVAL OF THE MU4UTFS Commissioner Lefler made the motion to approve the minutes of the May 11, 1992 meeting. Approval of the minutes seconded by Commissioner Bell. Motion carried 7:0. REGULAR MEETING A) Chairman's Report: Acting Chairman Buttrill reported that Chairman Bessie Chisum and Kirt Anderson went to the Italian Society of Beaumont meeting. MWUTFS Landmark Commission Meeting June 8, 1992 B) Committee Reports: Marker Committee. No Report. Marketing Committee: No Report. Conference Committee: Commissioner Pullig reported that Mayor Lord wrote a letter to Mayor Riley of Charleston, S.C. requesting his presence as keynote speaker at Beaumont History Conference in September. Commissioner Lefler stated that on June 18, 1992, the Texas Department of Housing Community Affairs where housing funds, trust funds state-wide were immediately available $900,000 in affordable housing activities. Additional funds up to $6,000,000 may be available when sufficient interest projects are identified and single- family bond program is set to begin July 15 and make available $132,000,000 for lower to moderate income housing. KCS Restoration Paper - Deadline August 1, 1992. CLG Conference - October 28-30, 1992 - Brownsville, Texas - Three commissioners to attend. Education Committee: No Chairman. Bylaws Committee: No Report. Catalog Committee: No Report. Laurie Marder - Survey Work Report Update. Lori Graham - Nomination Work Report Update. Building Committee: Commissioner Lefler stated he talked to Mike Phelan regarding historical designation for the building for Catholic Chairities located on Calder. Further information will be forthcoming at a later date. Murray Duren reported that the North Street Project is 100% complete and all payments have been released. Crockett 2585 South 4th 2595 South 4th 1372 Franklin 1392 Franklin 1255 Harriet 1255 Harriet (Garage Apt.) 3349 Grand 5160 Wilshire Commissioner Lefler made the motion that all be demolished except 2205 Avenue "A". Commissioner PuIlig seconded the motion. Motion carried 6:1. KCS Depot - Tenant search Commissioner Buttrill recommended that the KCS Depot might be used as an example at the CLG Conference. A tenant search is still going on. Commissioner Buttrill recommended Tyrrell Park for an historical marker. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned. 3
