The following Commissioners were present: Chairman Bessie Chisum Commissioner Raymond Chaison Commissioner Milton Bell Commissioner M.L. Lefler, Jr. Commissioner Sam Pullig Commissioner Charles Walker Commissioner Debra Kay Johnson Commissioner Bruce Hamilton The following Commissioners were absent: j Commissioner Mary Jane Buttrill ; Commissioner Jessica Foy Commissioner Walter Sutton Commissioner Lory Warton Staff present: Kirt Anderson, Planning Director, Patsy Ellis, Recording Secretary, Rick Bailey, Planning Technician. Also present: Councilman Andrew Cokinos, Sterling Pruitt, Assistant City Manager, and Dwayne Jones, Texas Historical Comission. APPROVAL OF THE iUNUTF.S �O j Commissioner Lefler made the motion to approve the minutes of the September 12, 1992 meeting. Approval of the minutes was seconded by Commissioner Bell. Motion carried 8:0. REGULAR MEE71'►NG A) Chairman% Report: Chairman Chisum welcomed Debra Kay Johnson as a new commissioner on the Landmark Commission. Ms. Johnson is the owner and president of Johnson's Secretarial Service located in the Kyle Building. NUI UZFS Landmark Commission Meeting October 12, 1992 B) Committee Reports: Marker Committee. Commissioner Bell reported on the marker placement on the Cooke -Wilson house. Marketing Committee: No Report. Conference Committee: Commissioner Pullig reported that January 9th is the date for the Neighborhood Preservation Conference in Beaumont. Mayor Elizabeth Rhea of Rock Hills, S.C. will be the keynote speaker. The theme for the conference will be "Affordable Housing through Neighborhood Preservation". Kirt Anderson reported that Chairman Chisum, Commissioner Buttrill, Commissioner Chaison and himself will be attending the CLG Conference in Brownsville, Texas on October 28-30, 1992. Education Committee: No Report Bylaws Committee: No Report. Catalog Committee: No Report. Building Committee: Motion for the Cooke -Wilson Tax Abatement Certification was made by Commissioner Lefler and seconded by Commissioner Chaison. Motion carried 7:0. Commissioner Bell recused himself. C) Main Street - Carolyn Howard Carolyn Howard introduced the new assistant, Debra Getchen. She reported that the Texas Downtown Association has placed Beaumont Main Street in the finals for two awards. They are: Marketing and Publicity Plan for the first ten months of operation; and Best Adaptive Reuse in the state of Texas for Phase II of the Crockett Street Marketplace. She also reported that Beaumont Main Street will be relocating their offices to the Hotel Beaumont. 2 MnUrru,s Landmark Commission Meeting October 12, 1992 D) Certified Local Government (CLG) - N ftne Jones Mr. Jones discussed the upcoming CLG Conference in Brownsville, the Spare Beaumont program and reviewed our 1992 commission's progress. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned
