HomeMy WebLinkAbout1-8-18 HLC Minutes * M I N U T E S * HISTORIC LANDMARK COMMISSION January 8, 2018 City Hall, 801 Main Street, Beaumont, Texas A Regular Meeting of the Historic Landmark Commission was held on January 8, 2018 and called to order at 3:34 p.m. with the following members present: Commissioner Dohn LaBiche Commissioner Judy Linsley Commissioner Marty Craig Commissioner Marie Broussard Commissioner Gretchen Hargroder arrived @ 3:44 p.m. Commissioner Lynda Kay Makin Commissioner Jessie Davis Commissioner Janelle Templeton Commissioner Jason Cansler Commission Members absent : Chairwoman Paula Blazek Commissioner Carol Fernandez Commissioner Thomas Sigee Councilmembers present: Councilmember Virginia Jordan Councilmembers absent: Mayor Pro-Tem Gethrel Williams-Wright Also present: Adina Josey, Senior Planner Fran Malvo, Recording Secretary Anna Varela, Code Enforcement Officer APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Templeton made a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting held on December 11, 2017. Commissioner Makin seconded the motion. Motion to approve carried 8:0. REGULAR MEETING 1) CA-2853: Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace a tile roof with a mountain slate shingle roof. Applicant: Alan & Priscilla Davenport Location: 2405 Pecos Street Mrs. Josey presented the staff report. Alan and Priscilla Davenport would like to replace Historic Landmark Commission January 8, 2018 their existing tile roof with architectural shingles. Mountain Slate is the color the applicant has chosen for the shingles. The property is located at 2405 Pecos Street. Staff recommended approval of the request. The house is not listed in the SPARE Beaumont Survey. Slides of the subject property were shown. Mr. Alan Davenport, 2405 Pecos Street addressed the Commission. Mr. Davenport stated that he needed to make repairs needed to his leaking roof and the roof is over a hundred years old. Chairman LaBiche stated he would like to see the new roof. Mr. Davenport provided the Commission with a sample of the roof. Mr. Davenport stated that by choosing that particular roof color, he felt it would keep the integrity of the home. Commissioner LaBiche suggested to Mr. Davenport that a company in Kansas makes a plastic roof similar to the roof he currently has on his home. Chairman LaBiche also stated it would be a much more expensive roof than the composition roof he has chosen, but it is another option that can be considered. Councilmember Jordan suggested another type of roof he could use also. Discussion followed. Commissioner Broussard suggested that Mr. Davenport could possibly sell the tiles that are currently on his roof. Chairman LaBiche made a motion to approve the request for the Certificate of Appropriateness to replace a tile roof with an architectural shingle roof, the color to be mountain slate, with decorative ridge tiles and cornice pieces reinstalled. Commissioner Makin seconded the motion. Motion to approve carried 9:0. 2) Historic District Code Enforcement Report Mrs. Varela stated that she did not have a Code Enforcement report due to being out but if there were any concerns to let her know. Discussion followed. OTHER BUSINESS Oaks Historic District Membership meeting at the McFaddin Ward Visitor’s Center to discuss the Hinchey House at 7 p.m. THERE BEING NO OTHER BUSINESS, THE MEETING WAS ADJOURNED AT 4:07 P.M. 2
