DESCRIPTION
Mr. Cicero Edward Stephens was born in Virginia on November 8,
1885, and moved to Beaumont prior to 1926. Mr. Stephens became a
successful entrepreneur by opening The C. E. Stephens Manufacturing
Company located on Neches Street. Mr. Stephens' company
manufactured floor sweep, treated sawdust and furniture polish.
The date of his marriage to Mrs. Dora Golden Stephens is unknown.
The Stephens family were residents of Beaumont during the
World War II era (1941-1945); the United States was at war with The
Empire of Japan and Nazi Germany. The Stephens family, like the
rest of the country, was under the guide lines set forth by the
Federal Government for commodity rationing of food stuff and
petroleum products in order to contribute the nation's full
efforts for the war cause.
This collection consists of thirteen war rationing stamp
books, an officer's graduate candidate school in Fort Benning,
Georgia, 1942, from their nephew Edward G. Crouch, correspondence
letters addressed to Mrs. Stephens from her nephews Edward G.
Crouch and Ben H. Magness, 1942-1943, an army song book published
in 1918, and one newspaper clipping from the Beaumont Journal,
Febuary 24, 1966.
Mr. Stephens resided in Beaumont until his death, April 29,
1947. Mrs. Stephens expired in 1979. This collection was donated
to the archives by their daughter Mrs. Mary Doug Stephens.
