DESCRIPTION
The scrapbooks describe activities of the Chamber of Commerce
Fire Safety Committee for the years 1968-1969. These activities
are displayed in correspondence, photographs and newspaper
clippings.
The committee promoted fire safety through various programs:
industrial and home fire safety programs were stressed; visual
aids to promote these programs were available for use by the
public; poster contests were held in Beaumont schools; a clean-
up event was sponsored by the Y.M.B.L.; Boy Scouts distributed
literature; Insurance Women of Beaumont sponsored a Miss Flame
contest; and in honor of National Fire Prevention Week a Fire
Safety Parade was held. These activities and others were held in
the interest of Fire Prevention.
The 1968 scrapbook received sixth place honors in a
national competition and was third place winner in a state
competition.
