FILE: PZ2025'203 STAFF REPORT Boyd Meier, Building Official, requests a Certificate of Demolition for the house located at 2254 Liberty Avenue. According to the inspection report,, this structure was originally tagged as a substandard structure on February lCi 2021 after it received damage from afire. The property owner initiated a work program on January 9, 2024; however, no work has been done since an inspection dated atJuly Z3, 2024. This request has come before the Historic Landmark Commission in March 2022 and January 2024 and was denied both times due to the Commission wanting to preserve historic homes instead ofdemolishing them. The property is listed in the 1989 SPARE Beaumont Survey and was built circa 1925 and classified as a Craftsman. The recorder noted that "'The house /s s//ucb/nalh/ sound, but not particularly we/l-/na/nto/nedUnsympathetic alterations detract from its architectural integrity."' The significance of the structure was listed as "The house is representative of the local adaptation of the{rofts/nonstv/eanc/nflarger /nb/d/e'class honnesbWit /nBea u/nontduring the firs tdecodes of the century. V Based on the extensive repairs needed for this structure the Building [odes Staff is recommending approval ofthe raze order. The Demolition will be funded through CDBG Grant funding. The property owners have attempted several times to bring the property up to code, but no progress has been made for over a year, and all permits are currently expired and inactive. 40 different violations are noted on the case, including numerous electrical hazards, fire safety issues, broken doors and windows, failed mechanical systems, plumbing problems, and other unsafe conditions.
