World War I was thought to be the war to end all wars by many residents of BeaLlmont, Texas and the country. Despite it being the time of "The Great Depression," there ryas a fervor of Patriotism among the citizens and they donated enough funds to construct the Temple in 193 1. Since its opening and to this clay, the Temple serves as a War MUseum which is open to the public on Patriotic Holidays or by appointment and includes war memorabilia. In 20035 city management suggested that Pipkin Park be sold along with other small parks with low usage but the idea was rejected by City COL11161. In 2007 the park was renamed to "Pipkin Patriots Park" at flie request of the DAR. In 2019, a District Boy Scout Horior Guard was formed and was named "Tlie Pipkin Park Honor Guard" rising the park' s naniesake as a tribute to the location that is the home of the'reniple To The Brave. A Revolutionary Soldier Jean Baptist Chaison was buried in the Arou Cemetery where the DAR placed a memorial stone in 1944. In 1969, the stone was relocated to the Southeast side of the temple by the DAIS after it was renioved from the cemetery due to construction of a church. In 1976, a Texas Historical Marker honoring Cliaison was placed near the stone of the temple. Eagle SCOUt EZCUiel Uribe who is the grandson of the Temple"curator Dennis White, constructed a stone Veterans Memorial in 2020 to memorialize all wars which is placed on the Northwest side of the Temple. The Daughter-s of the American Revolution Colonel George Moffett Chapter desired to build a temple to menio0alize World War I and obtained a city permit to construct the Temple in 193 1. Construction began in the same year and the Tenipie was dedicated in 1932 oil the date of Britisli General Cornwallis surrender to George Washington. In 1974, plexiglass was placed over broken windows. In 2003, the DAIS placed a marker on the Temple identifying it as a DAB.. Histor-ical Monument. In 2007, the DAIS coordinated a repair camp aign in which windows were repaired, watls replastered and FIVAC added. In that same year, the Temple was rededicated on its 75th anniversary. Historical Overview The Temple Tonic Brave was and is still today a tribute to the military service members who are fighting or who have fought for our freedom and to the desire for peace in the Nvorld. As \vars become forgotten and time marches forward, the 'I"emple serves as a reminder to us all to remember the past. "Those who can not reni ein be r the past are condemned to reheat it." The s i gn Ifi dance of tile r1i emple To The Brave is demonstrated both by the physical building it cif and the contents within it. The historic Temple To The Brave with its stained glass Nvindows, vaulted ceiling and stone exterior showeases exceptional craftsmanship and design. The Temple To The Brave is a rare tangible reminder of Nears that came before us and demonstrates what can be done when we work together. Businesses donated a niqjority of the materials for the cause and organizations srich as the DAR itself, 'Women"s Clubs, American Legion and Boy SCOLItS of An-i erica along with private citizens came together to make the initiative a reality. The long-term goal of the Pippin Park Honor Guard is to ensure the Temple remains relevant, adequately supported and visible by the public. As a Property on the National Historic Registry, the Temple. can be eligible for meeting a requi rement of the American Heritage Merit Badge and subsequently causi ng more YOLIth to visit the Temple and learn about our war history.
