603.03B Fire Hose Acceptance Testing, Numbering &
Decommissioning
Effective: October 10, 2022 Chief Earl White
1. New hose received - Supply Group Supervisor (Captain) will ensure that:
1.1. Hose packaging is checked at delivery, and issues are noted on the packing list.
1.2. Original packing list (with notations) is forwarded to the Fire Purchasing Secretary.
1.3. New hose is assigned next sequential range of inventory numbers.
1.4. New hose is delivered to Station 1.
1.5. Email notifications of hose and new numbers are sent to the following personnel:
1.5.1. Hose M&T Program Manager
1.5.2. Operations Section Chief & Deputy Chiefs
2. New hose assigned inventory numbers according to the following:
2.1. Letter designation indicating the size and type of hose

2.2. Two-digit number indicating the year placed in service.
2.3. Three-digit number indicating the hose count of the particular diameter hose sections
purchased within that given year.
2.3.1. Each year hose count will start at 001, and continue sequentially for each diameter.
EXAMPLE
The first new section of 1-3/4 for 2021 would be marked
B-21-001
3. After delivery to Station 1, and prior to being placed in service:
3.1. Inspection and acceptance testing performed according to SOG 603.03.
3.2. Hose that passes acceptance testing will be engraved with the applicable numbers for that
hose size as emailed from the Hose M&T Program Manager.
3.2.1. Hose to be engraved on both couplings of each section.
3.3. Hose that fails acceptance testing will not be engraved and will be returned to the supply
group as soon as possible.

3.3.1. The Company officer will:
3.3.1.1. Reverse roll the failed section.
3.3.1.2. Tag the hose with the reason it is being placed out of service.
3.3.1.3. Deliver failed hose to the supply office.
3.3.1.4. Notification of failure is to be emailed to the following:
3.3.1.4.1. Hose M&T Program Manager
3.3.1.4.2. Operations Section Chief & Deputy Chiefs
3.3.1.4.3. Logistics Section Chief
3.3.1.4.4. Supply Group Supervisor (Captain)
4. Hose Documentation
4.1. After testing the Company officer will email the Hose M&T Program Manager the
following:
4.1.1. The number of hose sections that passed and numbers engraved.
4.1.2. The number of hose sections that failed and numbers not used.
4.1.3. A scanned PDF of the completed Hose Inventory test form.
4.2. The Company officer will store the original form(s) for reference.
4.3. The Hose M&T Program Manager will:
4.3.1. Audit records received.
4.3.2. Enter information into Firehouse.
4.3.3. Inspect records yearly.
5. Decommissioning – If at any point a hose needs to be decommissioned due to damage,
failure, end of service life, etc., then:
5.1. Reverse roll the hose.
5.2. Deliver the hose to the Station 1 hose storage room, where it is to be placed on a pallet
with other decommissioned hose.
5.3. Email the Hose M&T Program Manager and all Station 1 Captains the following:
5.3.1. Total number of lengths and their diameter.
5.3.2. Inventory numbers of hose being decommissioned.
5.3.3. Reason for each length being decommissioned.
5.4. The Hose M&T Program manager will remove the inventory from Firehouse and hide the
records.
