and Fannin Streets.

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of the request to abandon Archie Street
between Forsythe and Fannin. This recommendation is subject to the retention of a utility
and drainage easement to protect services existing in the street right-of-way.
Saint Anthony Cathedral School of the Diocese of Beaumont is the applicant. The school
is making this request in order to be able to offer mare protection for small children crossing
the street between the elementary school and the now gymnasium. No new structures are
planned for the right-of-way according to Reverend Jeremiah McGrath. All of the abutting
property is owned by the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Beaumont. Several
property owners in the immediate neighborhood have signed petitions in favor of the
abandonment.
Information concerning the request was sent out to interested parties. There is a 42" storm
sewer in the right-of-way. Entergy, Southwestern Bell and Time Warner all have facilities
in the street. There is no water or sanitary sewer in the street. The Traffic Division objects
to closing the street. An easement will need to be retained to protect the existing services.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION FOR ORDINANCE PURPOSES
Archie Street, a60 foot wide public street right-of-way, extending 300 feet between the north
right-of-way line of Forsythe Street and the south right-of-way line of Fannin; said right-of-
way lying adjacent to Blocks 14 and 15, Van Wormer Addition, said right-of-way containing
18,000 square feet or 0.4132 acres of land, more or less.

To Whom It May Concern:
St Anthony Cathedral School is making application to the City of Beaumont requesting
the closure of Archie Street, between Fannin Street and Forsythe Street. All property
abutting the street to be closed is owned by the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Beaumont, and held for use by the school.
We are enclosing a map section showing the portion of the street to be closed, In
addition, We have attached neighboring "Property Owners Consent forms" consenting to
the closing of Archie Street.
The current request would permit the safe transport of children, ages 3 through 14 from
the St. Anthony Cathedral School to the property across Archie Street, which is the
location of the newly constructed gymnasium for the school.
The majority of automobile traffic on Archie Street is generated by school activities,
parents dropping off and picking up students. We ask that you seriously consider the
closing of this section to help assure the safety and welfare of our children.
