TO: Historic Landmark Commission
FROM: Demi Laney, Senior Planner
SUBJECT: A request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace windows to a house.
FILE: PZ2021-263
STAFF RE, PORT
Sam Daleo Jr, applicant, is seeking permission to replace the two (2) side windows to the
house location at 2525 Hazel. Replacement of the windows has been completed without
the benefit of a Certificate of Appropriateness (CA) or building permits. Originally the
windows appear to have been a vertical four (4) over four (4) pane appearance. The
windows that have been installed are a six (6) over six (6) in appearance. Please see
pictures of the proposed windows located in your packet.
This home is categorized as a Folk Victorian house. Examples for this style of home are
located in A Field Guide to Ainericcin Houses (McAlester et al., pgs. 313). The request to
have six (6) over six (6) pane windows does not seem appropriate, because it is typical for
a home within this era to have two to four (2-4) long vertical panes in appearance.
Staff recommends denial of this request.
This house is in in the 1991 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE states the house was built
c. 1918. The property was listed as an example of a greatly changed house that originally
was a common house form.
