SUBJECT: Request for an abandonment of a 60'x 140' portion of 14"' Street.
STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request.
Mark W. Whiteley and Associates is requesting the abandonment of a 60' x 140' portion of 14"'
Street, between Pecos Street and the alley in Block 29, Van Wormer 2"' Addition. This right-
of-way is unimproved.
The properties on either side of this request are owned by Sam Parigi and Entergy who join in
this request. In 1982, the City Council abandoned that portion of 14"' Street between the north
right-of-way line of Pecos and the north right-of-way line of Angelina.
The applicant states that this abandonment will allow for better use of the adjoining properties.
The subject property is currently fenced and is being used for storage.
This item was forwarded to all interested parties. At the time of the writing of this report, no
objections had been received.

Being a 60' x 140' portion of 14"' Street, lying between the north right-of-way line of Pecos
Street and the south right-of-way line of the alley in Block 29, Van Wormer 2 d Addition,
containing 0.19 acres, more or less.

RE: Abandonment request (A Portion of Fourteenth (I 4t" ) Street
Attached, please find our application for the abandonment of the above referenced
portion of Fourteenth Street together with the required fees. As you will note from our
attachments, the portion of Fourteenth Street from the South right of way line of Pecos
Street to the South right of way line of Angelina Street was previously abandoned in
Ordinance No. 82-100, dated August 31, 1982.
This request is a continuation of the original intention to abandon Fourteenth Street
around the Pecos Street area. The city plat in fact shows the street abandoned to the
North line of Lot 7, Block 29, when in truth and in fact the ordinance does not read this
way. The property owners abutting this requested portion, Mr. Sam Parigi, Jr. and
Entergy, Inc. join in this request for abandonment. This will allow for better land use of
the property and create additional taxable property for the City of Beaumont. There is
not any existing utilities or pavement structures along the 140.00 feet adjacent to Lot 7
Block 29 and abandonment of said use for street purposes would not in my opinion affect
the City of Beaumont's Master Street and Highway plan.
