SUBJECT: Request for approval of a historic preservation loan for
renovations at 2300 Harrison Street

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request in the
amount of $3,500.
In October, 2004, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pickens requested a historic
preservation loan in the amount of $25,063 for renovations to be
made to their home at 2300 Harrison. Due to past credit problems,
the Planning Manager recommended denial of the request. However,
the Historic Landmark Commission approved the request. On
November 10, 2004, City Council denied the request due to concerns
over the Pickens= credit history.
The Pickens= are now requesting $3,500 to replace the roof. Two bids
have been submitted - $3,325 and $6,500. The Planning Manager
recommends a loan of in the amount of $3,500. If approved,
payments would be $145.33 over a two year period. The Planning
Manager feels that the amount requested carries less risk than the
previous request.
The property is not listed in SPARE Beaumont.
