FILE: PZ2021-179 STAFF REPORT The applicant, Mike Jenkins representing Jenkins Construction, is asking permission to construct an accessory structure. This structure would be used as an archive building for The Chambers House located at 2240 Calder Avenue. The proposed structure will be constructed on a concrete slab foundation. It will have a pitched roof with a side gable and columns. The exterior of the structure is to be vertical I-lardiPlank and the roof will be made of composition shingles to match the existing main structure. The entrance to the building will be solid wood paneled doors. Additionally, there will be a single, glazed, square window located on the north and South elevations of the structure. The proposed structure will be located in the rear of the property on the grassed area adjacent to the existing storage buildings and parking lot visible to the public by way of Mcfaddin Street and 7"' Street. However, the building will be restricted to staff only and will not be accessible to the public. Staff recommends approval of the request for the construction of a new archive building subject to the following conditions. 1. The structure shall have the same horizontal siding profile as the main structure located on the property. 2. The structure shall paint to match the existing main structure. This house is in the 1990 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE states the house was built C. 1908. This is a fine example of upper class housing built by the Chambers family after the first Spindletop boom, It is still occupied by the Chambers family. Exhibits are attached. Two story portico supported by four Doric columns on square brick bases. Turned spindle bannister. Wood porches. Two story hip roof wing with four two -over -two sash on each level. Brick foundation. Original tight fixtures on either side of entrance. Four Ionic columns support the second -level porch, and Doric columns support the roof. 11. Present Condition Poor. Structure Leans badly and needs to be painted. 12. Significance: This is a fine example of upper class housing built by the Chambers family after the first SpindLetop boom.
