City Council Chambers
A meeting of the Board of Adjustment was held on February 1, 1990 with the
following members present:
Chairman Milton Bell
Board Member Jayne Eisen
Board Member Ron Lanier
Board Member Whit Outlaw
Board Member Bettye Smith
Board Member Charles Thompson
Board Member absent: Gerald Farha.
Also present: Kirt Anderson, Planning Director; Murray Duren, Sr.
Planner; Edmund Petry, Planner; Ilona Baker, Drafting
Technician; and Tyrone Cooper, First Assistant City
Attorney.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Board Member Smith made the motion to approve the minutes of the
December 7, 1989 Workshop Meeting. Board Member Thompson seconded
the motion. The motion to approve carried Unanimously.
PUBLIC HEARING
Due to possible conflict of interest, Board Member Ron Lanier abstained from
discussing and voting on Case File #340-BA.
File #340-BA: Application for a special exception to reduce by 1.05 feet
the exterior side yard of a corner lot, zoned GC -MD, resulting in a side yard
of 8.95 feet.

Public Hearing
Staff recommended granting the request because as a corner lot it would
comply with special exception 30.37 E.(2)b(2); the special exception would
not adversely affect the value and use of adjacent or neighboring property;
and this request was not contrary to the best public interest.

Board Member Thompson made the motion to grant the special exception
to reduce by 1.05 feet the exterior side yard of a corner lot located at the
northeast corner of Fourteenth Street and North Street. The motion was
seconded by Board Member Eisen.
Motion to grant the special exception carried 5:0.
y WORKSHOP
ITyrone Cooper, oper, First Assistant City Attorney for the City of Beaumont,
defined the decision making powers of the Board, explained the criteria for
determining conflict of interest and discussed various scenarios involving
possible conflicts of interest.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
