SUBJECT: Request to consider an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness to
construct a new single family structure.

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Director recommends approval of this request.
This application is for a one story single family home to be built on an existing vacant
lot. The house is to be built by the Beaumont Independent School District Trade
students.
The house will be approximately 1243 square feet in area. The exterior will be
covered in wood siding. A one car carport will be located at the northwest corner
of the house. The house will be built on a concrete slab.
The 2200 Block of Hazel is a mixture of housing types and construction. To the east
is a 2-story brick apartment building. To the west is a one-story wood siding single
family home. Immediately across the street is a vacant lot. The rest of the block
consists of single family homes, duplexes and apartments that are built of brick, wood
siding or asbestos shingles.
The Oaks Historic District regulations state that architectural details of a building
should be done in such a manner as to be compatible with other buildings on the
block face. This structure would be compatible with the surrounding houses.
