Richardson, Planning Director SUBJECT: Request for a Historic Preservation Loan for 1203-1205 North St. FILE: HCD-1.15 STAFF REPORT Ms. Lerlene Raines and Robert Weaver, owners, have made a request for a historic preservation loan for exterior renovations on the duplex structure and garage apartment located at 1203-1205 North St. It is the intent of the applicants to completely refurbish the structure. Initial plans for the exterior involve repairs to the foundation of the main structure and replacing the roof of the garage. The structure will continue to be used as a duplex and will be owner occupied. The duplex was built c. 1920. According to SPARE Beaumont, the structure is of the Vernacular Craftsman style. SPARE goes on to say that the structure is a unique vernacular interpretation of the Craftsman style. Provided the loan amount is approved at $4,500.00, the rate of repayment will be $250.00 per month for 18 months. Exhibits are attached. East wing contains one/one segmented arch window with Craftsman detailing on second story directly above hipped tile entry porch with decorative brackets. wooden door with brick.steps. Hest wing has offset one/one sash with Craftsman detailing on second story. Hipped tile roof entry porch with decorative brackets over wooden door with brick steps. Masonry foundation. 11. Present Condition Good. The house is enerally well -maintained, although the paint is Peeling and some deterioration is evident on the eaves. 12. Significance: The house is an example of larger middle class homes built in Beaumont after the first Spindletop boom adapted with a unique vernacular interpretation of the Craftsman style. 13.
