APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
A motion was made by Shaheen Farah to approve the minutes of the August 11, 1997 meeting. Marie
Broussard seconded the motion. Motion carried 8:0.
REGULAR MEETING
1) Endorsement of CLG Workshop - Corpus Christi. Steve Richardson reminded the Commission
of the CLG funding for the conference to be held in Corpus Christi in the Fall of 1998. A
motion to approve the application for CLG funds was made by Dorcy Watler. Michael O'Rear
seconded the motion. Motion carried 8:0.
2) Revolving Loan Fund - Steve Richardson gave a status report as of August 31, 1997 on the
Loan Fund. The amount available for loans is $8,300. Shaheen Farah asked about the status on

the KCS Depot. Mr. Richardson stated that presently, the literacy program which is sponsored
by the city,will occupy the depot.
3). Chairman's Report - Tracy Richardson welcomed new members, Jamie Credle and Dale
Hallmark, to the Commission.. Mr. Richardson staled that he had been appointed Chairman
and Michael O'Rear as Vice Chairman.
Chairman Richardson gave a report on Spindletop 2001. He and Sam Pullig are currently
rewriting the proposal to be presented to the mayor's of all the involved cities. One of the main
concerns expressed was to keep the other counties and towns interested and that this project is
not just a "downtown Beaumont" rejuvenation.
Areas being considered as possible sites include the old BISD building and a section on
Crockett Street. The area which used to be called "Shadowlawn" was also suggested as a
possible location.
The Convention and Visitor's Bureau continues to get requests for brochures about the different
historical areas of Beaumont. Shaheen Farah stated that there is a possibility of grants being
available for the purpose of printing historical educational brochures. Chairman Richardson
asked Steve Richardson to investigate the various sources available for funding such a project.
Commissioner Hallmark also suggested letting neighborhood association's becoming involved.
Carolyn Howard with Beaumont Main Street informed the Commission that "Noon Tunes" will
start Friday, September 12, 1997.
With no further business the meeting adjourned.
