HomeMy WebLinkAboutCA-217R 2 DATE: March 9, 1998 TO: Historic Landmark Commission FROM: Stephen C. Richardson, Planning Director SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness for exterior renovations at 1775 North FILE: CA-217 STAFF REPORT Mr. and Mrs. George Blake, applicants, are requesting a certificate of appropriateness for exterior renovations at 1775 North St. The work involves replacing the asphalt tile roof with composition shingles and the installation of vinyl siding over the existing "117" siding. The vinyl siding will be a pale yellow with white trim. In addition, the applicants are reinstalling porch rails. Mr. and Mrs, Blake also own the house next door at 1785 North. It is their intention to renovate both structures. Both structures had foundation problems and have been leveled. The 1990 SPARE Beaumont stated that this structure was built c. 1925 and is of the Vernacular Craftsman style. It is typical of middle class housing built during the 1920's. At the time of the survey, it was noted that the roof and porch were sagging. A certificate of appropriateness had been granted for this structure. At that time, Staff was unaware of the type of roof and siding that was on the house. Upon further investigation, the City issued a stop work order and put the request on the Historic Landmark Commission agenda. Exhibits are attached.
