Richardson, Planning Director SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness for the demolition of a single family structure at 2268 Liberty. CA-222 STAFF REPORT The City of Beaumont Clean Community Department has` tagged the single family structure at 2268 Liberty as substandard and in need of demolition. The structure was inspected and found to be in violation of the City of Beaumont Code of Ordinances pertaining to dangerous structures (see attached Inspection Report). The Clean Community Division is asking that the Historic Landmark Commission grant permission to demolish this structure. The Texas Historical Commission (THC) conducted a review of the property and found the property to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under Criteria C. The THC found that the building retains some degree of integrity and would be a contributing member of a potential historic district. The property is listed in the 1989 SPARE Beaumont survey. SPARE states that the structure was built c. 1920 and is of the Craftsman style. SPARE further states that the house is representative of the local adaption of the Craftsman style and is typical of middle class homes built in Beaumont during the 1920's. The house was in good condition in 1989 but has deteriorated since. The City has determined that needed repairs exceed 50% of the appraised value ($12,770 improvements; $17,770 total). The Historic Landmark Commission is asked to review this structure for historical significance and if it should be demolished. Exhibits are attached.
