SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness to demolish a garage
apartment at 339 3rd.

The Planning Director recommends approval of this request.
The City of Beaumont Clean Community Department has tagged the garage apartment at
339 3rd as substandard and in need of demolition. The structure was inspected and found
to be in violation of the City of Beaumont Code of Ordinances pertaining to dangerous
structures (see attached Inspection Report). The Clean Community Department is asking
that the Historic Landmark Commission grant permission to demolish this structure.
The structure is not listed in SPARE Beaumont.
The City has determined that needed repairs exceed 50 % of the appraised value ($34, 850
improvements - house and garage apartment; $43,330 total).
The Historic Landmark Commission is asked to review this structure for historical
significance and if it should be demolished.
