Richardson, Planning Manager SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness to demolish a residential structure at 2495 Angelina FILE: CA-453 NOTE: The property owner has been notified of the historic preservation loan program. He has also contacted Pam Loiacano about what needs to be done to the structure. The property owner informed the Planning Manager that he would be interested in renovating the house for sale. STAFF REPORT The Planning Director recommends approval of this request. The City of Beaumont Clean Community Department has tagged the residential structure at 2495 Angelina as substandard and in need of demolition. The structure was inspected and found to be in violation of the City of Beaumont Code of Ordinances pertaining to dangerous structures (see attached Inspection Report). The Clean Community Department is asking that the Historic Landmark Commission grant permission to demolish this structure. The structure is not listed in SPARE Beaumont. The Texas Historical Commission conducted a review of the property and concluded that it is not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The structure was tagged as substandard in May, 1997. In September, 1997, the property owner entered into a work repair program. That work repair program expired in January, 1998. No work has been done and the structure has not been brought into compliance. The City has determined that needed repairs exceed 50 % of the appraised value ($20,580 improvements; $24,080 total) The Historic Landmark Commission is asked to review this structure for historical significance and if it should be demolished.
