TO: Historic Landmark Commission
FROM: Stephen C. Richardson, Planning Manager
SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness for the construction of a
carport
FILE: CA-480
The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request. The existing pitch of the
garage would make a pitched carport look awkward. The garage sits back far enough from
the street and because much of the carport will be hidden by the house, it will not be
noticable.
The applicant has requested a certificate of appropriateness for the construction of an
aluminum or metal carport in front of the existing garage at 2455 Gladys.
The Zoning Ordinance states that accessory structures must be compatible with the scale,
shape, roof form, materials detailing and color of the main building. Accessory structures
must have pitched roofs. Pre -fabricated metal accessory buildings are permitted if they are
completely screened from view from any abutting street.
The applicant states that the carport structure will match the white aluminum siding on the
house and that only a small portion of it will be seen from the street.
