HomeMy WebLinkAboutCA-531s R1 DATE: January 8, 2001 TO: Historic Landmark Commission FROM: Stephen C. Richardson, Planning Manager SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness for the demolition of a structure at 2230 South FILE: CA-531 STAFF REPORT The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request. The Clean Community Department inspected the structure at 2230 South and found it to be in violation of the City of Beaumont Code of Ordinances pertaining to dangerous structures. The structure was tagged as substandard in June, 1999. Notification was sent to the property owner but no work repair program was ever initiated. The structure recently burned to such an extent it cannot be repaired. The property is listed in the 1990 SPARE. SPARE noted that the modern use of board and batten siding sacrificed the architectural integrity of the structure. The Texas Historical Commission conducted a review of the property in November, 2000 and found the property to be ineligible for the National Register of Historical Places. City Council issued a raze order for this structure in October, 2000. Exhibits are attached.
