HomeMy WebLinkAboutCA-8191 DATE: duly 14, 2003 TO: Historic Landmark Commission FROM: Stephen C. Richardson, Planning Manager SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness to allow the replacement of the file roof on the house and the garage apartment with asphalt shingles MILE: CA-819 STAFF REPORT The Planning Manager recommends Sidney Caywood is requesting a certificate of appropriateness to allow the replacement of the file roofs with asphalt shingles on the house and garage apartment at 2290 Liberty. Mr. Caywood states that the weight of the file roofs are causing structural problems. The house has been leveled twice and has now sunk again. His contractor has told Mr. Caywood that if the file roof was removed he could then put larger piers under the house to prevent further problems. Once the file roof is taken off the garage apartment, a new foundation will then be installed and the building leveled. The property is listed in the 1989 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE states that the house was built c. 1925 and is of the Colonial Revival style with Craftsman influence. The house is representative of a local combination of two popular styles and is typical of upper middle class homes built in Beaumont during the 1920's. Exhibit is attached.
