SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness to allow the replacement of
concrete shingles with asphalt shingles
FILE: CA-844
STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request.
Lynda Kay Makin, the owner of the property at 1900 Broadway, would like to replace the
concrete tile shingles on the carriage house with asphalt shingles. Ms. Makin states that the
roof currently leaks and past attempts to repair it have failed. The difficulty in finding the
shingles and expense involved in replacing them has Ms. Makin wishing to install asphalt
shingles. At some time in the past, a lean-to structure was added to the carriage house. The
roof of the lean-to already has asphalt shingles on it.
Ms. Makin will use the salvageable concrete tile shingles to make repairs to the main structure.
This will allow her to keep the integrity and look of the main building.
