SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness to allow the painting of a house
and renovations to the front porch.

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request.
Willie Carter is making repairs to his house located at 2020 Broadway. He has taken off the
aluminum siding and would like to paint the house a light green with white or cream trim.
When scraping the existing paint off of the house, Mr. Carter found that the house was painted
a similar green. The green paint that is on the house now is a primer. Mr. Carter will have a
sample of the paint that he wishes to apply to the house.
In addition to the painting, he would like to remove the walls that enclose the upper level of the
front porch. These walls were constructed many years ago and seriously detract from the
house. The Carters would like to renovate the porch and bring it back to its original design.
The house is listed in the 1989 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE states that the house was
built c. 1920. The house was originally of the Prairie design but because of unsympathetic
alterations to the house, SPARE states that the house is now nondescript.
