SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness to install a chain link fence
FILE: CA-587
STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request to install a chain link fence at
2510 Evalon.
The applicant states that the chain link fence, along with the landscaping, affords some
protection and privacy from the street traffic without blocking the view. The applicant
bought this house over a year ago. The fence was installed without a certificate of
appropriateness. The City does not require a building permit for fences.
The historic district regulations state that a chain link fence is allowed in the rear yard but
must not be visible from the street. A fence in a front or corner side yard must be
constructed of wrought iron, wood or brick.
There are other existing chain link fences in the immediate neighborhood. The fence does
not extend in front of the house.
The house is listed in SPARE.
Exhibits are attached.
