HISTORIC LANDMARK COMMISSION
January 21, 2004

A Special Meeting of the Historic Landmark Commission was held on January 21, 2004
with the following members present:

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Commissioner Farah made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 8, 2003
Regular Meeting. Conunissioner Long seconded the motion. Motion to approve carried 7:0.
REGULAR MEETING
1) CA-860: Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to allow the installation of
windows in the turret of a house.
Location: 1695 Milam
Applicant: Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Briscoe
Mr. Richardson stated that the subject house was granted an HC-L designation
in 1999. The applicants, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Briscoe, bought the property from
Planning Commission
January 21, 2004
Delores Davis and would like to renovate the house for use as their residence.
The Briscoes would like to install new windows in the turret. The window openings
are currently open and water is seeping into the structure.
The Briscoes have researched old photographs and have found one at the Tyrrell
Historical Library showing that the windows in the turret were leaded glass. Mr.
Briscoe's sister, Bettye Coffey, has made one new window for review by the Historic
Landmark Commission. If approved, Ms. Coffey will make the remaining windows
for installation.
Mr. Richardson recommended approval of the request.
Chairman Richardson asked for the applicant's comments.
Bettye Coffey addressed the Commission. She said that there is a total of 8 windows
in the turret.
Corrumissioner Long made a motion to approve a request for a Certificate of
Appropriateness to allow the installation of windows in the turret of a house at 1695
Milam as requested in CA-860. Commissioner Yocs seconded the motion. Motion
to approve carried 7:0.
2) Historic Preservation Loan Report
Mr. Richardson stated that $6,215.67 was available.
3) Director's Report
Commissioners Yoes and Brailsford attended the recent History Conference and
were very pleased with the information presented.
ComnissionerMcFarland mentioned the upcoming Historic Preservation Conference
to be held in Fort Worth in May.
