A Regular Meeting of the Historic Landmark Commission was held on June 13, 2005 at
3:30 p. m. with the following members present:

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Commissioner Richardson made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 16, 2005
Special Meeting. Commissioner Jordan seconded the motion. Motion to approve carried
7:0.
REGULAR MEETING
1) CA-964: Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to allow the installation of a
copper roof or copper colored metal roof on a structure.
Location: 325 7" Street
Applicant: Richard Verret
Mrs. Abshire presented the staff report. Richard Verret, the property owner, has
modified his previous request to allow the installation of a copper roof on the porch

and the "witch's hat" on his house at 325 7" at Liberty. The rest of the house would
be roofed with wood shingles.
Mr. Verret states that he would like to reroof those portions of his house with a
standing seam copper roof or a standing seam metal roof in a metallic copper color.
The existing roof is covered with wood shakes and composition shingles. However,
the roof is in very bad condition, as is much of the house.
(Vice Chairman Yoes arrived.)
The Planning Manager recommended approval of the request.
A slide of the house was shown.
Chairman Farah asked for the applicant's comments. The applicant was not present.
Discussion followed between the Commission members.
Commissioner Richardson made a motion to table the request for a Certificate of
Appropriateness to allow the installation of a copper roof or copper colored metal
roof on a structure at 325 7' Street as requested in CA-964 until the applicant can
be present. Commissioner McFarland seconded the motion. Motion to table carried
7:0.
2) CA-974: Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to allow the construction of
a driveway.
Location: 2235 South
Applicant: Gerald George
Mrs. Abshire presented the staff report. Gerald George, the applicant, is requesting
a certificate of appropriateness to allow the construction of a single car driveway
in the front yard on the east side of the property at 2235 South. The parking space
will be 10' x 18'. The south end of the space will be one foot away from the base
of the tree on the east side of the property.
The structure's most recent use was a halfway house. The property owner is
converting the main structure into a two residential units. The smaller structure at
the rear of the property will be converted into a single residential unit. There is an
existing curb cut and parking space on the west side of the property.
The Planning Manager recommended approval of the request.
The driveway width will not exceed 10'.

Chairman Farah asked for the applicant's comments.
Gerald George, the applicant, addressed the Commission.
Commissioner McFarland made a motion to approve a Certificate of
Appropriateness to allow the construction of a driveway at 2235 South as requested
in CA-974. Vice Chairman Yoes seconded the motion. Motion to approve carried
7:1 (Richardson).
3) CA-982: Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to allow the construction of
a carport.
Location: 2310 South
Applicant: D. R. Bailey
Mrs. Abshire presented the staff report. D.R. Bailey, the property owner, wants to
construct a 20' x 20' metal carport in front of his garage at 2310 South.
The prefabricated carport will be of metal pole construction with a pitched metal
roof. The Historic District regulations state that prefabricated metal accessory
buildings are permitted if they are completely screened from view of any abutting
street. The carport proposed location in front of the existing garage will make the
carport visible.
The Planning Manager recommended denial of the request.
Slides of the subject property were shown.
Donald and Darlene Bailey, the applicants, addressed the Commission.
Discussion followed between the Commission members.
Commissioner Jordan made a motion to deny a Certificate of Appropriateness to
allow the construction of a carport at 2310 South as requested in CA-982.
Commissioner Dean seconded the motion. Motion to deny carried 8:0.
4) Historic Preservation Loan Report
Mrs. Abshire stated there is $59,326.34 available in the loan fund.
