Historic Landmark Commission
November 14, 2005
Mr. lbach made application for the certificate of appropriateness in mid -September.
However, after the hurricane, Mr. Ibach called to request immediate approval of the
metal roof because of the storm. damage. He was told at that time that a
composition shingle roof would be approved, but to put a metal roof on would have
to go before the Commission.
The Ordinance states that roof materials and roof patterns must complement the
style of the building and be typical of the style and period of the building's
architecture. While metal roofs are a permitted roofing material, Mr. Richardson
stated that he did not feel that such a roof would complement or is typical of the
style of the house.
Mr. Richardson recommended denial of the of the metal roof, but recommended
composition shingles.
Chairman Farah asked for the applicant's comments. The applicant was notpresent.
Commissioner Jordan made a motion to deny a Certificate of Appropriateness to
allow the replacement of a concrete tile roof with a metal roof on a house at 2265
Broadway as requested in CA-1004. Commissioner Richardson seconded the
motion. Motion to deny carried 8:0.
In response to Mr. Richardson, the Commission clarified that an architectural
composition shingle would be allowed.
