Richardson, Planning Manager SUBJECT: Consider a request for the abandonment of 60' x 500' of Averill Street FILE: 718-OB STAFF REPORT The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request. In December, 2006, the Beaumont Housing Authority requested the abandonment of a number of streets and alleys located within the former Fair Park property. The purpose of these abandonments is to facilitate the development of housing by the Housing Authority. City Council approved the abandonments in January, 2007. It was recently discovered that an additional 60' x 500' portion of Averill Street needs to be abandoned. The purpose of this request is to abandon that portion of Averill Street which will allow the Housing Authority to develop its property as planned. Exhibits are attached. LEGAL DESCRIPTION FOR ORDINANCES PURPOSES BEING a strip of land 60 feet in width out of and part of the existing Averill Street right-of-way between Maime Street and the South alleyway lines of Block 6 & 7 of Gold Hill Addition, recorded in Vol. 2, Page 82 of the Map Records of Jefferson County. Said 60 feet wide strip of land being situated in the James Drake Survey, Abstract 18, Jefferson County, Texas, and being more particularly described as follows: BEGINNING at the intersection of the East line of Averill Street ( 60 feet wide) right-of-way, and the South alleyway line of said Block 7; THENCE in a Southerly direction along and with the East line of said Averill Street right-of-way a distance of 500 feet to the North line of said Maime Street; THENCE in a Westerly direction along and with the North line of said Maime Street right-of-way a distance of 60 feet to the West line of Averill Street; THENCE in a Northerly direction along and with the West line of said Averill Street right-of-way a distance of 500 feet to the South alleyway line of said Block 6; THENCE in a Easterly direction over and across said Averill Street a distance of 60 feet to the PLACE OF BEGINNING, containing 0.69 acre of land, more or less.
