Richardson, Planning Manager SUBJECT: Consider a request to close a portion of Trinity Street at the railroad right-of-way FILE: 774-OB STAFF REPORT The City of Beaumont Public Works Department has applied to close a portion of Trinity Street at the KCS Railroad right-of-way. Patrick Donart, Public Works Director, states that the reason the City would like to permanently close Trinity Street is to participate in a Federal Signal Program. In the interest of public safety, TxDOT and the railroad companies work to identify and close existing, redundant, non-essential highway-railroad crossings. Trinity was selected to participate and the City elects to be in the program. By closing this crossing, a quiet zone would be created which would benefit those residents living and working in Downtown Beaumont. Exhibits are attached. LEGAL DESCRIPTION FOR ORDINANCE PURPOSES Being a 0.08 acre portion of Trinity Street beginning at the east right-of-way line of the intersection of Trinity Street and the Kansas City Southern Railroad right-of-way and continuing in a southwesterly direction to the west right-of-way line of the intersection of Trinity Street and the Kansas City Southern Railroad right-of-way, City of Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, containing 0.08 acres, more or less.
