SUBJECT: Consider a request for a specific use permit to allow a hair salon
in an RM-H (Residential Multiple Family Dwelling-Highest
Density) District.

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request.
Kimberly Tompkins, the applicant, is requesting a specific use permit
to allow her to operate Kim=s Hair Studio at 8155 Gladys. The hair
salon will encompass 800 sq. ft. and according to the site plan, will
house four hair cutting stations.
In November, 2003, City Council voted to approve a specific use
permit for a real estate service/general offices on the subject property.
Since that time, a 4,000 sq. ft. building has been constructed. Patti
Merrill, the property owner, will soon be moving her real estate
business into the building. She would like to lease a portion of the
building to Ms. Tompkins for use as the hair salon. A hair salon is
permitted in an RM-H District with a specific use permit.
