SUBJECT: Consider a request for a specific use permit to allow the
expansion of church activities in an NC (Neighborhood
Commercial) District.

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request.
Christ Gospel Church is requesting a specific use permit to allow the
expansion of its church to an existing building at 3235 Highland
Avenue. Reverend Samuel Jones, pastor of the church, states that
the building will be used primarily on Sundays for Sunday school
classrooms.
The church will be building a new sanctuary and this building will
become their educational facility. The pastor states that the building
will be painted and renovated. Parking for this property will be
accommodated on existing church parking lots.

This application is in conformance with the eight conditions necessary
for approval. Comments on Condition 1 and 4 follow:
1. The subject property was, at one time, a commercial
building. The use of the building as an educational
facility for a church will be an improvement over the
previous use. The church has plans to renovate the
building.
4. Parking for the subject property will be accommodated by
existing church parking lots.
