The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request.
Hammond Jones Development LP is requesting a zone change from LI
(Light Industrial) District to GC-MD (General Commercial-Multiple
Family Dwelling) District for property located at 5355 Ohio Street.
The subject property is currently occupied by Gideon Distributing Inc..
It is the desire of the developer to demolish the beer distributing
company and build apartments that will cater to the student
population of Lamar University. Gideon Distributing will move to
another location within the city.
Hammond Jones Development is currently constructing apartments
across M.L. King Parkway from the subject property. The proposed
apartments will be similar to those currently under construction.
