HomeMy WebLinkAbout1925-P DATE: January 28, 2008 TO: Planning Commission and City Council FROM: Stephen C. Richardson, Planning Manager SUBJECT: Consider a request for a specific use permit to allow a metal working facility in a LI (Light Industrial) District FILE: 1925-P STAFF REPORT The Planning Manager recommends approval. Fittz & Shipman, Inc. has applied for a specific use permit to allow a metal working facility in a LI (Light Industrial) District. The property is located at the northwest corner of Franklin and Archie. Eastham Forge, Inc. plans to construct a new 36,000 sq. ft. building that would house a heat treatment facility. The building will house three furnaces and three quench tanks. Eastham Forge manufactures alloy steel parts for the oil and gas exploration industry. Currently, there is no such heat treatment facility as proposed in Southeast Texas. The industry now has to ship parts to Houston for heat treatment. This facility would be the first of its kind in the area. Manufactured parts are placed in one of the furnaces and then to one of the quench tanks to cool to the desired hardness. The process is computer controlled. The furnaces run 10-12 hours at a time. The facility runs 24/7 and will employ four to six employees. Exhibits are attached.
