SUBJECT: A request for a Certificate of Demolition to demolish a house.

STAFF REPORT
Boyd Meier, Building Official, requests a certificate of demolition for the house located at 1791
North Street. According to the inspection report, this structure was originally tagged on January
18, 2019. After attempts to save the house were met with theft and vandalism, the owner signed
a demolition consent. The report states that part of an exterior wall is missing and much of the
sheetrock is gone. All of the electrical, mechanical and plumbing would need to be brought up
to the current code. Based on the extensive repairs needed for this structure the Building Codes
Staff is recommending a raze order.
Planning staff recommends approval of this request.
The house is in the 1990 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE states that the house was built c.1922.
The house is Craftsman style that was typical of middle class housing built in Beaumont in the
1920's and 1930's.

MAJOR CODE VIOLATIONS: The owner has signed the demolition consent. The
structure is unsecure and open to the elements. Vagrants have been going in and out of the
Property. There are holes in the walls and floors. Part of the exterior wall is missing and
there is missing sheetrock throughout the structure. All of the electrical, mechanical, and
plumbing will have to be brought up to the current code. There are also foundation issues
that will need to be corrected. Based on the extensive repairs needed in this structure staff
is recommending a raze order for this structure.

one story frame structure. Geble front roof with overhanging eaves, exposed rafters, and cornice brackets. Louvered
vent in gable. Two four -over -one sash. one fifteen -pane door. Left justified gable front portico supported by two
square tapered columns on square stucco bases. Wood porch.
