HomeMy WebLinkAboutCA-1061 DATE: December 12, 2005 TO: Historic Landmark Commission FROM: Stephen C. Richardson, Planning Manager SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness to allow the construction of a metal accessory building at 2390 North FILE: CA-1061 STAFF REPORT The Planning Manager recommends denial of this request. Juan Jaimes is requesting a certificate of appropriateness to allow the construction of a 24' x 40' metal accessory building in the rear yard of his property at 2390 North. The Historic District regulations state that a prefabricated metal accessory building is permitted if they are completely screened from view from any abutting street. Mr. Jaimes states that he would like to construct a 24' x 40' metal garage in the northeast corner of his property. Mr. Jaimes states that he would construct a 6' screening fence around the rear yard. The building, as proposed, would be 10' tall at the eave and 15' tall at the peak of the roof. While some larger metal buildings have been permitted in the Oaks Historic District, these buildings have been part of commercial businesses and were subject to additional conditions to so that they complemented the business and surrounding properties. This metal building would be in the middle of a residential neighborhood and would detract from the subject property as well as surrounding properties. Exhibits are attached.
