HomeMy WebLinkAboutCA-1009 DATE: November 14, 2005 TO: Historic Landmark Commission FROM: Stephen C. Richardson, Planning Manager SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness to allow the replacement of an existing composition roof with a green metal roof. FILE: CA-1009 STAFF REPORT The Planning Manager recommends approval of a silver or gray metal roof. Brenda Batiste, the property owner, is requesting a certificate of appropriateness to allow the replacement of the existing roof with a green metal roof on the house at 1561 Park. The house currently has a green composition roof. The house was granted an HC-L Designation in 1990. The property is listed in the 1990 SPARE Beaumont survey. SPARE states that the house was built c. 1898 and is of the Vernacular Victorian style. Section 30.21.2 of the Zoning Ordinance states that roof materials and colors must complement the style and overall color scheme of the building. Roof patterns of the main building must be typical of the style and period of the architecture of the building. When this house was built, metal roofs were typical of the style and period of this house. However, the Planning Manager doubts that painted green metal roofs were available. An exhibit is attached.
