SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness to allow
the construction of a carport
FILE: CA-1208
STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends denial of this request.
Sharon Santos is requesting a certificate of appropriateness to allow
the construction of a metal carport at the rear of her property at
2227 Ashley. There is an existing concrete slab in the southeast
corner of Ms. Santos= property on which she would like to build the
carport. The carport will be visible from Ashley only if looking
straight at the property. Vegetation partially obstructs this view.
The carport will have a pitched roof and will be a light sand/cream
color and white to match the house. A wooden storage closet will be
built enclosing the rear section of the carport.
Section 30-21.2 of the Zoning Ordinance states that accessory
buildings must be compatible with the scale, shape, roof form,
materials, detailing and color of the main building. Prefabricated
metal accessory buildings are permitted if they are completely
screened from view from any abutting street.
The house is listed in the 1990 SPARE Beaumont survey. SPARE
states that the house was built c. 1929 and is of the National Folk
style.
Exhibits are attached.
