SUBJECT: Request for approval of a certificate of appropriateness to allow
a prefab metal carport/storage building.

STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends denial of this request.
Yvonne Sharpton, the property owner, is requesting a certificate of
appropriateness to allow a prefab metal carport/storage building at
2501 Hazel.
Originally, a small building housing a beauty shop was located where
the carport now stands. That building was destroyed by Hurricane
Rita. No building permit was issued for the carport.
Section 30-21.2 of the Zoning Ordinance states that accessory
buildings must be compatible with the scale, shape, roof form,
materials, detailing and color of the building. This carport does not
meet these requirements and is clearly seen from the street. In
addition, the carport is extending into the right-of-way and
therefore, must be moved, even is approved by the Landmark
Commission.
The property is listed in the 1991 SPARE Beaumont survey.
