STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of the driveway
construction and removal of the planter box and replacement of the
front porch columns and denial of the carport construction.
Cody and Michelle Woodul are requesting a certificate of
appropriateness to allow the construction of a metal carport and the
widening of an existing driveway at their residence at 2460 Evalon.
The Wooduls wish to install a 16' x 26' carport in front of the
existing garage. The carport will be constructed with 5" steel
columns with 26 gauge A R @ steel panels on the roof. The color of the
structure will match the color of the house. The roof would only be
pitched enough to allow for drainage. The Historic District
regulations state that accessory buildings must be compatible with the
scale, shape, roof form, materials, detailing and color of the main
building. Accessory buildings must have pitched roofs. Prefabricated
metal accessory buildings are permitted if they are completely
screened from view from any abutting street. The proposed carport
does not conform to the regulations.
In addition, the applicants wish to remove the planter box and replace
the porch columns on the front of the house. They state that the
planter box was pulled away from the house and damaged the
columns. The existing metal columns would be removed and replaced
with wood columns.
The Wooduls also wish to widen their concrete driveway by 6'. The
regulations allow a residential driveway to be 20' in width. The
existing driveway is 10' wide. The applicants state that part of the
existing driveway incurred storm damage. The Wooduls would like to
widen the driveway in conjunction with the repair of the storm
damage.
