HomeMy WebLinkAbout1879-Z DATE: April 9, 2007 TO: Historic Landmark Commission FROM: Stephen C. Richardson, Planning Manager SUBJECT: Consider a request to remove four properties out of the Oaks Historic District FILE: 1879-Z STAFF REPORT The Planning Manager recommends denial of this request. Kevin Herrington, representing Altus Healthcare Management Services (HMS), is requesting that the properties at 2671 Broadway, 2675 Broadway, 2679 Broadway and 2685 Broadway be taken out of the Oaks Historic District. Altus HMS is in the process of building a surgery, imaging and sleep th center at 390 N. 11 at Broadway. Mr. Herrington states that Altus HMS is interested in future expansion of the center. The primary reason for acquiring the properties is for future overflow parking. Mr. Herrington says that all the parties have expressed concerns as to the limitations of the Historic District and are agreeable to the sale of their property. In 2005, City Council approved the removal of the property at 2693 Broadway from the Oaks Historic District. That approval was largely based on the fact that the historical significance or the contribution of that property to the Historic District had been compromised years ago with the building of a large metallic building attached to the rear of the main structure. The Planning Manager feels that removing the subject properties from the Historic District for the use of parking and/or expansion of the medical building will be detrimental to the District. Exhibits are attached. LEGAL DESCRIPTION FOR ORDINANCES PURPOSES Being Lots 10-13, Block 49, Averill Addition, City of Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, containing 0.688 acres, more or less.
