STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request subject to
receiving approval of variances to the maximum height and area
requirements from the Board of Adjustment.
Thom Campbell-Amons, the Principal of the Taylor Career Center, has
applied for a certificate of appropriateness to allow an owner
identification sign at 2330 North. The proposed sign will include a
marquee board with changeable letters. The sign will be 56 sq. ft. in
area and a height of 12'.
On November 4, 2007, the Zoning Board of Adjustment will be
considering variances to the maximum square footage and the
maximum height. The historic district regulations limit the area to
12 sq. ft. and the height to 6'.
When considering a certificate of approval for a sign, the historic
district regulations state that the Historic Landmark Commission
should consider the shape, materials, color, design and letter style.
The sign must be typical of and compatible with the style and period
of the architecture of the building and compliment the historic district.
The regulations also state that the sign shall not be illuminated.
The sign support will be 3' x 8', painted green with a large red A A @
and the wording American Valve and Hydrant. The company is
sponsoring the sign. The marquee will be 4' x 8' with changeable
letters.
Exhibit is attached.
