STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of this request.
Arcelia Loza, the property owner, is requesting a certificate of
appropriateness to allow the construction of a pitched roof on a
flat-roofed house at 2060 Ashley. The existing roof does pitch
slightly to the rear of the house with the roof at the rear of the house
being lower than the roof at the front of the house. Apparently, the
roof was damaged during Hurricane Rita.
The new roof will have gables at the front and rear of the house and
will have a 6/12 pitch. The new roof will be covered with black 40
year four-tab shingles. The applicant states that the carport will be
demolished.
At the July 9 Historic Landmark Commission meeting, there was
some confusion as to what form of roof would be built and how the
carport would be incorporated into the design. The Planning
Manager met with the applicant and the contractor to explain that an
elevation of the house would be needed so that the Commission could
get a better idea of how the roof would look. An example was shown.
Enclosed in the packet is the diagram submitted by the applicant.
The house is not listed in SPARE Beaumont.
An exhibit is attached.
