STAFF REPORT
The Planning Manager recommends approval of the railing, awnings
and roof and denial of the paint scheme. .
Jimmy-John Akins has applied for a certificate of appropriateness to
allow the installation of a wrought iron hand rail on the front porch,
one-quarter sphere cloth awnings over the two front french doors, a
change in roof color and painting. The house is located at 2335
Harrison.
The front porch hand rail will replicate the existing iron work on the
house. Mr. Akins would also like to install cloth awnings over the two
french doors on the front of the house. He would like to replace the
existing black shingled roof with A Chelsea Green @ asphalt shingles. The
exterior of the house would be repainted with the body being painted
Sherwin Williams A Roycroft Copper Red @ (SW2839), trim being
painted Sherwin Williams A Roycroft Mist Gray @ (SW 2844) and
accents being painted Sherwin Williams A Roycroft Brass @ (SW2843)
and Sherwin Williams A Roycroft Bottle Green @ (SW2847). Samples
of roof and paint color will be provided at the meeting. These colors
are samples from the Sherwin Williams Arts and Crafts palette.
The house is listed in the 1991 SPARE Beaumont Survey. SPARE
Beaumont states that the house was built c. 1930. The house is of
the colonial style. The Planning Manager does not feel that using
Roycroft Copper Red as the main color is appropriate on a colonial
style house. A different combination of this color combination with
the use of the red as an accent might be more acceptable.
